ABWÛN

The Living God

In recalling my earliest memories, I know, without equivocation, one of them spotlighted the significance of a father to his child. The most moving model to me was Jesus, the carpenter from Galilee, whose relationship to a divine father was awe inspiring. In Aramaic, he referred to his G-d as “ABWÛN,” which as far as I understand, is the familiar a child uses for their father, much like “Daddy” or “Papa.” In Hebrew, the equivalent is “Abba.” Both are endearments for a father which embody belonging, empathy, protection, and power.

Over the many years since that memory, I have grown ever fonder of this divine salutation. I now wonder what is its connection to humans? I know in referring to G-d, we are in an indirect way understanding more and more about the Creation, i.e., us. Just what are the qualities of the Name which describe our path to the Creator? I know this path is the one He wants us to take in order to achieve the eternal and infinite freedom as His Children. In becoming this ultimate form, we come as close to divinity as is possible.

The Great Father of the Universe.

As a child depends on its father for everything, so does G-d expect us to rely on Him for everything. He wants us to achieve a dependency in which we submit completely and with full participation in His Rulership and Kingship. We are children of Royalty and assume a Co-Creator role by renewing the essence we have. We transmute as is understood in alchemy from a very selfish and closed nature to one that is like Him, full bestowal and completely open. The Universe according to Abwun is one where we assume our rightful place as Co-Creators in which we bestow / love as He does, but in the way He wants: to receive His infinite treasures because we want to bring Him pleasure, to show Him we receive to give Him honor, glory, and praise.

May it all be so, ABWÛN, soon.
